Osteoarthritis is the most common type of hip arthritis. Also termed degenerative joint disease, osteoarthritis is characterized by progressive wearing away of the cartilage of the joint. As the protective cartilage is worn away bare bone is exposed within the joint.


The symptoms of hip arthritis may include the inability to move freely without pain, joint stiffness, pain in the hip or groin, inability to put weight on your leg on the side of your injured hip, stiffness and swelling in and around the hip area.
